Learn more about how to use the Osiris Interactive Calendar.

After much planning and testing the Osiris Team is very excited to announce that we will be rolling out our NEW Interactive Calendar. The Osiris Interactive Calendar provides a visual representation of your Establishment’s Schedule. You can switch between Day, Week, or Month views, and can navigate backwards and forward using either the arrows or the Calendar navigator on the right.


You can also export Calendar Entries to iCal (for Apple or Google), or directly to Outlook if you have it installed.


Calendar Basics.

Case Events
Any type of Event associated with a Case is a Case Event. These are exactly the same events that have always been available within the Case on the Events screen, only now, you can also manage Case Events right from the Calendar.

General Appointments
A General Appointment is any appointment *not* associated with a Case. For example, Employee Time off, or a Staff Meeting. These work pretty much like you’d expect Appointments to work on any Calendar you currently use.

Takeaway: The Calendar shows Case Events and General Appointments right alongside each other; the difference between the two is simply that a Case Event is associated with a Case, where a General Appointment is not.

Let’s add a General Appointment for a Staff Meeting. Simply double-click where on the Calendar you’d like the meeting, choose “A General Appointment”, and click Finish.

Choose “Meeting” for the Appointment Type”, Type “Staff Meeting” for the Subject, set the end time, then click Save and Close.

Adding a Case Event
To Add a Case Event (Service, Interment, Arrangement Conference, etc), simply Double-click the date & time on the Calendar where you’d like the Event added.

Choose Case Event, then click Next, at which point you will be asked to specify a Case (Deceased) to add the Event for. You can either look up an existing Case by typing the name, or you can add an entirely new Case (covered in the next section).

Adding an Entire Case from the Calendar (and why you’d do it)
Say you get a First Call, and the family immediately wants to schedule a time (or a Tentative time – explained next!) for the Arrangement conference. You can add the new Case AND the Arrangement Conference Case Event in one fell swoop – right from the Calendar. Simply double-click on the time they want to come in, and in the popup chose Case Event, then Add New Case.

Other Calendar Features.

Tentative Case Events
When a family is thinking of a tentative Service date/time, but isn’t 100% sure yet, you can easily add a Tentative Event to your Calendar so co-workers can see it and don’t schedule another Event without consulting you. Marking an Event as Tentative is simple – there’s a “Tentative” checkbox on the Event screen. Tentative Events are denoted by diagonal lines so they are easily distinguished from confirmed Events. Once the date and time have been confirmed via right-click or clearing the Checkbox, the diagonal lines go away and you are left with a regular Service.



Color Coding
You might have noticed that entries on the Calendar different colors. We’ve provided the capability to set a different color for each Event Type (e.g. Funeral, Graveside, Arrangement Conference, Interment) – this way you can differentiate events with a quick glance. If you don’t like the colors we picked, they are easy to change. Just head to Tools->Options->Calendar.



Hover to See Case and Checklist Summary
Hovering over a Case Event gives you summarized information about a Case including how many checklist items remain. You can also Print an Event Summary for the Case, or Open the Case, right from the Calendar.



Linked Interments
It can be tricky to precisely schedule interment-type events; for most of us, an interment happens right after the service’s ends time…which is usually not exactly known. Osiris supports this reality by making start times optional for Interments, and making such Interments automatically follow their associated service on the Calendar.



Time Zone Awareness
This feature doesn’t apply to many of you, but for our customers with establishments in different Time Zones, it is a real winner! If you are ever viewing a Case Event or Appointment for a different Time Zone, Osiris clearly shows the translated local time for the Event, right alongside the actual Event time. Time Zone rulers are also automatically added for every Time Zone contained in your Osiris file.
